Referring to your "brave" defence of comedians and Dave Chappelle in particular, I wonder if you've ever belonged to a group that's been marginalized, ridiculed, deprecated or terrorized? If you haven't, I'm not sure you can appreciate the power of a barb hurled in your direction. In Chappelle's recent "comic" litany, I only got as far as the comment about "Space Jews" returning to Earth to take over the world. It was so slight it may have passed you by completely, but to a Jewish person cognizant of how often that same accusation has been used to villify Jews all over the world and through the centuries -- and the awful and I mean that literally -- awful consequences, it could make you squirm. And how funny is it really? What does it really point out of value politically or socially? Yet it feeds into an anti-semitic narrative that creates sterotypes that end up in the chants of cross-carrying racists in Charlottesville.
