Best column you've written and scarily true. Nazism, fascism, etc. grow in a vacuum -- a vacuum of hatred and resentment. But I don't think it only comes from poverty. Not all the Trump supporters are poor financially -- but they feel they have nothing in their lives. It's a sort of spiritual, psychic poverty. It's a powerlessness beget of a lack of values, a lack of significance and meaning. And lack of community. Yearning to belong to something, they are drawn to violence, to insurrection, to destruction. It's ugly and this ugliness can't be rationally persuaded away. They must experience an alternative and it must come from a deep source. How do we as a culture offer something as enticing, as enthralling as mob rule? You're right, they've just got a taste of their power, they'll want more!!
